The Chapter 103 Guide to USVA Telemedicine
A primer for Veterans on VA distance medicine
The VA is a leader in distance medicine. That leadership will continue as VA Health related apps and programs come online in numbers and capabilities that will make distance medicine and consulting a routine experience for the Veteran.
The COVID-19 Pandemic is likewise pushing the non-Veteran US population toward distance medicine. Non-VA physicians are now limiting their own and patient exposure to the virus by minimizing in person office consultations using telephonic, teleconferencing and televideo technologies.
Veterans and family members often utilize the services of VA and non-VA medical providers. Thus, there is no avoiding this technology. We must all come to terms with and adapt to the changing delivery of medical services. Fortunately, there is little difference between the VA and Non-VA delivery of distance medicine: to learn either is to become comfortable with both.
The purpose of this guide is to present in one-place the various VA produced guide manuals, test internet site, available on-line help and nine video tutorials on the topic of VA distance medicine, applications required for the different operating systems and instructions for their use. It is hoped this guide will ease the transition into distance medicine for the typical seventy-plus year-old Vietnam Veteran.
Change can indeed be a challenge, but as Veterans we know the drill: evaluate, adapt and overcome.
